In order to sustain the economic growth, the Government of Meghalaya planned to focus on promoting the tourism sector in Meghalaya to stimulate different sectors of the economy, unlocking opportunities for economic development, poverty alleviation and income generation. But the development of tourism sector in Meghalaya is however hindered by lack of adequate infrastructure.
The Government of Meghalaya, with financial loan from the New Development Bank (NDB) and its own counterpart funding, implemented the project, ‘Meghalaya Ecotourism Infrastructure Development Project’ through its agency, the Meghalayan Age Limited and the Tourism Department to construct and develop various infrastructures in the state of Meghalaya.
In accordance with the NDB’s Environment and Social Framework (ESF) and the likely environmental and social impacts that may arise during the project implementation, the Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) was engaged by the Meghalayan Age Limited (MAL) to conduct public consultations for the various projects which will help minimize and mitigate impacts during the implementation of the projects. The Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) successfully completed the public consultation for 22 projects in two phases.
